
Dr. John K.M. Wandaka (Ph.D)

Dr. Wandaka is a seasoned consultant, trainer, and expert in Sustainable Tourism, Wildlife Studies, and Environmental Management, with over two decades of leadership across Kenya and the wider African region. He currently serves as the Chair of the KEPSA Environment, Water, Climate Change & Natural Resources Sector Board, and sits on several influential bodies, including the Ecotourism Kenya Executive Committee, the Environmental Institute of Kenya (EIK), and the Kenya Bureau of Standards Technical Committee on Environmental Management Systems.
A certified Lead Expert in Environmental Impact Assessment (NEMA), Dr. Wandaka has contributed to numerous national and international environmental initiatives. His project portfolio includes work with FAO/GEF, UNEP, Nature Kenya, and the World Bank, focusing on areas such as ASAL restoration, ecotourism development, sustainable tourism standards, and community development planning.
Academically, he holds advanced qualifications including a PhD and Master’s in Environmental Studies, alongside specialized international training in conservation education, tourism management, environmental education, and environmental management from institutions in the UK, Israel, China, and Kenya.
Dr. Wandaka’s career spans both consultancy and academia. He has served as Environment Education Officer at the National Museums of Kenya, Head of Tourism Department and Deputy Director of Studies at Kenya Utalii College, and as a lecturer at leading universities including Kenyatta University, Moi University, USIU‑Africa, and the University of Nairobi. He is recognized for his extensive contributions to sustainability, conservation, and capacity building across Africa.
