Kenya’s journey toward a circular economy is gaining momentum — and few organisations have been as pivotal in this transition as Sustainable Inclusive Business Kenya (SIB-K).
Established in 2015 under the KEPSA Foundation, SIB-K has become a key driver of sustainable, inclusive, and circular business practices in Kenya. Over the past decade, it has united businesses, policymakers, and changemakers around one shared goal — building an economy where resources are used efficiently, waste is minimised, and innovation thrives.
At the heart of SIB-K’s work lies its commitment to the Circular Economy, addressing waste, recycling, and plastics through collaboration and practical solutions. As the secretariat of the Kenya Plastics Pact (KPP), SIB-K is helping to transform Kenya’s plastics value chain through four ambitious targets:
- Eliminate problematic or unnecessary single-use packaging
- Ensure 100% of plastic packaging is reusable or recyclable
- Achieve 40% effective recycling of all plastic packaging
- Attain 15% average recycled content across packaging materials
Beyond plastics, Sustainable Inclusive Business Kenya (SIB-K) continues to shape conversations on climate resilience, food systems, water management, and inclusive workplaces — ensuring sustainability is not just a policy goal, but a lived business reality.
SIB-K played a pivotal role at Propak East Africa 2025, supporting the Plastics SA Training Programme as valued partners and champions of circularity. They will also be participating in Propak East Africa 2026, continuing their work in fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing toward a more sustainable industrial ecosystem.
This year marks 10 years of SIB-K — a milestone celebrated through the 10th Circular Economy Conference taking place from the 19th -20th November 2025. The event will spotlight the progress, pilot projects, and partnerships that have accelerated Kenya’s circular transition, while setting a collective vision for the decade ahead.
As long-time supporters of sustainable industry growth, Propak East Africa is proud to stand alongside our partners at SIB-K in advancing this dialogue. The circular economy is not only an environmental imperative — it’s an industrial opportunity that will define the future of packaging, processing, and manufacturing across the region.
