This has been used by brands like Red Bull, whereby filling trash cans with Red Bull cans all over London, they created an illusion of popularity hence showing a ‘social proof’, which significantly increases purchase decisions – at this point people thought Red Bull was popular for a reason and therefore were just gonna buy it.

Other top brands like Coca Cola, Nike and Apple, have for years too leveraged cognitive factors to drive their brands to world dominance.

With that in mind, it would only be a matter of time before top data institutions and research centres study factors affecting purchase decisions across other industries. World leading consumer report firm statista.com published a report showing volume sales by type of yogurt packaging for the year 2021. The findings are as follows:

From the findings, it’s clear consumers prefer yogurt cup packaging over other types of packaging, or perhaps the market is flooded by yogurt cup type of packaging – any could be the case. Research published on Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute, however, shows the percentages have nothing to do with the market being flooded by yogurt cup type of packaging but everything to do with cognitive based factors influencing purchase decisions.
